2023 Summer Camp

Welcome to your Summer Camp details! This page will be updated as we get more information and get closer to camp. Please read everything and take action when noted!

This summer we have elected to attend Summer Camp in Colorado at Camp Alexander the week of June 25th, 2022!

Latest Updates

  • Summer Camp This Weekend!

We aare less than a week away from heading to camp! Just a reminder to make sure that Scouts are well hydrated this week. Camp Alexander is at 8000 feet. Keeping yourself hydrated will help with the acclimation to the higher altitude.

If there are any questions about camp this week, please reach out to Mr. Naber or me.

  • Camp Alexander Update!

Hey Gang!  We’re two weeks away from going to Camp Alexander!  Any scouts needing a swimmer classification test before camp can do it on Saturday, June 17th, at the Ridge Pool, from 2-3pm.  We’ve reserved a lap lane, so please join us!  The entry fee is only $3.75 per scout, and it’s our understanding the boys can stay and swim after we’re done with the lap lane.

All scouts planning to participate in any lake or pool activities at Camp Alexander needs to do a swim classification test.  To be classified as a swimmer, scouts must swim 75 yards in a strong manner using a breath or crawl stroke, swim 25 yards using an easy restful back stroke. Scouts must include at least one sharp turn and at the end they must finish up by floating to rest.

To be a beginning swimmer, scouts must ump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface,

stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.

Scouts that don’t complete either swimmer or beginner classifications are classifies as a non-swimmer.

  • Summer Camp Reminders!

Medical Forms are due Monday night.  Please make sure that all 3 pages that require a doctor signature get signed.  Also please be sure to have a photocopy of the Scout’s insurance card.

The deadline for filling out the Dietary Restrictions is Sunday.  The website states that they need 3 weeks notice, and that is Sunday 6/4.  There is a link on the camp’s webpage and Mr. Naber put the link in the GroupMe.   Parents not Scout leaders need to fill out this form.

Finally if your Scout would like to rent a cot for the week ($25), we need to know Monday night.  It is not required.  Scouts can bring their own cot or sleeping pad too.

  • Summer Camp Reminders!

    Hey Everyone,

Just a reminder that Medical forms MUST be completed and turned in next Monday, June 5th.

Also, if you want to rent a cot, we need to know by June 5th so we can put in our order and pay for them.

  • Scout Camp Corner – Miscellaneous Details

    Hello Everyone,

We are only five and a half weeks away from going!

I think I know just about all of you, but if you don’t know me, I am Nik’s father.  Chris Naber, Cynde Rothenburger and I are the adults going to camp this summer.  I have volunteered to be the leader this year, and therefore I am the adult that is responsible for all the paperwork getting turned in.

    Merit Badges

Merit Badges are finalized, and fees have been paid (and charged to your Scout Account).  If anybody is interested in seeing the Merit Badge Schedule for their Scout, let me know and I will send it to you.

    Medical Forms

Medical Forms MUST be completed and turned into me no later than the Monday June 5th meeting.  There is a packet of forms on the Troop website, under the Summer Camp tab.  Three separate pages require a doctor’s signature.  If your Scout takes medication, there is a separate form that must be signed by a doctor.  If your Scout has an EPIPEN or  Asthma Inhaler that they need to carry with them, there is a separate form for that as well…and it also needs to be signed by a doctor.  PLEASE make sure these forms get done, your Scout can’t go to camp without them.

    Dietary Needs

If your Scout has food allergies or other special dietary needs, the camp needs to be notified a minimum of 3 weeks prior to the start of camp.  Notification is done via a Microsoft form that can be found on Page 58 of the Camp Alexander Leaders Guide, which is on the Troop website under the Summer Camp Tab.

    Cots

Camp Alexander provides cots for rental.  The cost is $25 for the week.  I posted a Poll on GroupMe asking about Cot rental and got 5 total votes.  Mr. Naber and I decided that this year we will leave it up to the individual Scout to decide if they want to rent a cot.  We are not going to just rent them for everyone like we did last year.  We are taking the Troop trailer, so there will be room for Scouts to bring their own cot or sleeping pad.  If your Scout would like to rent a cot from the camp, please let me know.  If I don’t hear from you, I will assume that your Scout is bringing their own cot or sleeping pad.

    Care Packages/Letters From Home

The camp does not recommend sending anything to your Scout while they are at camp.  Mail and Package delivery is sporadic, and oftentimes items arrive after the Scout has already departed camp. So instead the camp sells Care Packages that can be delivered to your Scout at camp.  Information about those Care Packages is on page 43 of the Camp Alexander Leaders Guide.  See me for more details about an alternate solution.  Also the Camp does have a Trading Post, and it is recommended that the Scouts bring some cash to buy Ice Cream, Candy, Soda, Slushies, etc.  Scouts also may want to buy a souvenir hat, t-shirt or knife.  Last year, I sent Nik with $60 and that was more than enough.

    Packing List

I am currently working on a packing list for Scouts, and will send it out a couple of weeks before we leave.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. Also if there is anyone else (another parent, etc.) that needs to be added to this email group, let me know and I will add them.

  • Scout Camp Corner – Last Chance To Modify Merit Badges

Hello Campers.  This is your last week to change Merit Badge selections.  Merit Badge fees will be paid this week and selections will be locked in.  See Mr. Finley during the meeting if you have any questions about Merit Badges.

Just a reminder Medical Forms have to be turned in no later than Monday June 5th.

  • Scout Camp Corner – Medical Form Requirements

Medical and Immunization forms need a doctor signature, so Scouts might need appointments with their doctor.  All the Medical Forms need to be turned in to us by June 5th, so we have time to make sure they are filled out correctly, scan and upload them.

Merit Badge Request Form

Please print out the following, check the schedules of Merit Badges in the Leader Guide (starting on page 19), and fill out the form with your preferences and BRING TO SUMMIT RIDGE ON APRIL 24th! Any extra cost for merit badge choices will be billed to your Scout Account.
