A Message From Your Scoutmaster

As some of you may have heard, our Committee Chair Todd Williams is stepping down in January. We owe a lot to him since his son has aged out of Scouts and he has continued to serve – and he is willing to hang in a bit longer and help train his replacement. In fact, we have a handful of adults who have stuck around because they belive so strongly in the mission of BSA and want to support this troop.

We need someone to step up and take on this Chair position as soon as possible. Each unit in the BSA has what’s called Key 3 Leadership. For troops, that means the Chartered Organization Representative (ours is Rusty, a member of the church), myself as Scoutmaster and the Committee Chair. We work togther to make sure the kids are safe, the rules are being followed, and the paperwork is getting done.

Without each of these three roles filled, we can’t have a unit.

So why should we volunteer when we ALL have busy lives?

Because if a parent is involved in the unit, a Scout is more likely to stay in Scouting and get far more out of it.

Because the more time you spend with you child as they grow and gain awareness, the stronger your relationship with them can be.

Because your child’s peer group plays a huge influence on their interests, choices, and outlook on life. As a BSA leader, you can play a very important role in guiding them and their friends towards becoming young adults with strong values, an understanding of teamwork, and the desire to explore new opportunities.

Because it is important to play a role in developing the kind of world you want to live in. We are actively contributing to making the world a better place by influencing the lives of the kids who are our future.

The position doesn’t require a lot of camping or mountain climbing as it’s largely clerical.  There’s a couple of on-line training sessions to help you get ready. The important thing to remember is that you’ve got other volunteers to help you; other volunteers who’ve taken plenty of on-line and in-person classes and who really want you to succeed – who even want you to have fun doing it. It is imperative that we get someone in this role as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please reach out to Todd or myself.

Peace,
JCS
