We’ve added a slew of new events to the Events tab. Please go in and read the details and sign up for the trips you are interested in ASAP! We need to get the Troop signed up for Klondike and Summer Camp soon so book your spots!
Thanks to an intrepid group, we managed to plan out all of 2024’s major campouts and events over this past weekend at the church. Thanks to Bjorn, Cooper, Eli, Zack, Nik, Andrew, and Aidan for attending and consuming pizza and soda while Brett, Chris, Cynde, Curtis, Mike, and Jon facilitated (and also consumed pizza and soda).
The full year PDF is posted on our calendar page and the events will be added to the actual calendar by our Scout Webmaster over the coming week or so.
As promised, I have created the initial webpage for all things Sea Base! Please check it out. It’s not complete of course and I will add more info as I have time and get it, but there’s a good amount to start reading – including the leader and participant guide for our adventure which are both chock-full of good stuff including some links to required videos we all must watch.
It can be found from anywhere on our website on the main menu or here:
I know it’s been awhile since we’ve had to deal with Medical Forms, so as a reminder, BSA requires the Medical Form Parts A & B1/B2 to be completed for all outings and Part C for outings greater than 72 hours in duration. For Klondike, we will only need Parts A & B1/B2 (which means you do not need a doctor’s signature).
As of tonight, 2/28 at 10pm, the following are the Scouts we have signed up and their med form status. If I don’t have your form (adults included!) please take some time to print out Parts A & B1/B2 and bring them, filled out, to one of the upcoming meetings prior to Klondike. They are versy strict about this at Klondike as I will have to present a copy of everyone’s med forms at check-in. Thanks so much!
Remember that you must get approval before working on any merit badge! This typically requires you signing out a blue card, however we will allow some leeway during these challenging times and instead ask you to contact Mr. Strauss, Mr. Bielkiewicz, or Mrs. Grishman to get “virtually” approved to work on a merit badge via the form at the bottom of this page.
In light of recent events, it has been decreed that a standard 14er would not be appropriate at this time. Instead, we’ve decided to attempt the near-impossible – a Virtual 14er from the comfort of your own homes! Your esteemed ASMs have established basic ground rules for said 14er. You will walk laps around your house approximately 6,890 times, however you must also climb up and down approximately 824 flights of stairs. Every 10 laps or 2 flight of stairs, you need to add weight to your backpack to simulate the lack of oxygen on a real 14er. If you live in a ranch-style home, your basement will suffice. If you do not have stairs easily accessible, a ladder on the side of your house will have to do. Once you complete your journey, you must take a selfie while holding a sign stating “Survived My First Virtual 14er, 2020.”
If this seems unreasonable, you are correct. This is a joke. We simply want to see if anyone is paying attention. The REAL 14er date has been moved back a couple of weeks to August 21st-23rd at a yet-to-be-determined site by Mr. Johnson. SCOUTS, if you’ve read this far, simply tell Mr. Bielkiewicz on the next virtual scout meeting what the new date for the 14er is and who is leading it and I will give you a prize!

In doing a little research online, I’ve found several places where you can enroll in online merit badge classes. Most of these are scattered all over the country, so make sure you take note of the timezone the class is being offered in and likely have an additional cost associated. Also, remember that it’s recommended that you get approval before working on a merit badge! This typically requires you signing out a blue card, however we will allow some leeway during these challenging times and instead ask you to contact Mr. Strauss, Mr. Bielkiewicz, or Mr. & Mrs. Grishman to get “virtually” approved to work on a merit badge via the form at the bottom of this page.
Apologies if the links no longer work or if the classes are full or passed. I will remove links to the ones that no longer appear to be hosting online classes. Hopefully they continue to add more classes and don’t forget about your local ASMs willing to offer virtual MBs as well (if you lost the link to the list, please use the form below to request a counselor and we will get one assigned to you)!
