Personal Fitness Merit Badge

Hello Troop 640!

If you are participating in the Personal Fitness Merit Badge, I have some important instructions for you!  PLEASE READ!

First, the merit badge booklet is available online, for free at Personal Fitness Merit Badge.  Please review the material covered in the booklet.  The requirements can be found at Personal Fitness MB Reqs.

On Monday, we completed requirement 2 and 6a the first personal fitness assessment.  If you have not filled in the requirement 2 section of the workbook, please do that soon.  Between now and the meeting on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, I need you to complete requirement 6b and 7.  The workbook has section to record this information. 

Requirement 6: (Before doing requirements 7 and 8):
(b) Keep track of what you eat and drink for three days. Identify three healthy eating goals you want to work on.

Requirement 7: Outline a comprehensive 12-week physical fitness program using the results of your fitness tests. Be sure your program incorporates the endurance, intensity, and warm-up guidelines discussed in the Personal Fitness merit badge pamphlet. Before beginning your exercises, have the program approved by your counselor and parent or guardian.

If you need help with creating a fitness plan, see the sample plan on page 76 and 77 of the merit badge booklet.  You’re welcome to use that plan, or modify it.  I will review and approve your plans on Monday, Oct 6th.  You should plan to begin your 12-week fitness plan on Tuesday, Oct 7.

We will repeat the fitness assessment as follows:

Week 4: Nov 3rd.
Week 8: Dec 1st.
Week 12: Jan 5 (or the first meeting in January if no meeting on the 1st)
